Some people argue that these “body memories” aren’t from a past life at all and that the story is just the result of an overactive imagination – that it’s only in their head. However, the psyche of the individual is still being affected negatively, regardless of  what really happened or how it came to be. In Past Life Regression Therapy, our objective remains the same – providing a safe and effective way to release unresolved emotional conflict and bring relief to the client.

We’ve been working on this for a while and it looks like it’s going to happen soon. The Institute for Hypnosis and Past Life Regression Therapy will be moving to a new physical location. This new location is “The Source for Creating Sacredness” at 3538 Anderson SE, Albuquerque NM 87106. We will be moving this Fall and should be in full operation by October 2010 (provided everything goes according to plan). Our new physical location will be a retail store (selling feng shui and hypnotherapy books, supplies and art), and a place for private hypnotherapy sessions, intuitive readings, classes and Reiki workshops as well. In the mean time, we will continue to do our work in our regular location.

In my previous post, I talked about what Hypnosis is not. Now it’s time to discuss what Hypnosis is.

Hypnosis is a state of relaxed concentration which makes it easier to have a ‘single pointed’ focus and a removal of other distractions from the mind. When one can achieve this state, it is much easier to make changes, insert new suggestions into the unconscious which are easily accepted (suggestibility), find lost or forgotten memories (regression and past life regression therapy) and access to motor and bodily processes (metabolism, pain, heart rate, blood pressure etc.). Also, it is believed that you have access to DNA, Spirit Guides or “other worldly guidance”, other extra-sensory intelligence (psychic visions for example) and other transpersonal visions (seeing the wholeness of all life and its connectedness). All of these are articles and studies all on their own, for the purposes of this article however, we’ll stick to the very basic, elementary explanation, which once understood are easily translated to these other subjects.

Simply put, the mind is the computer and the body is the robot. What the mind commands the body does. The result of what the body does is information for the mind which transmits it back to the body. This is a cyclic relationship that can cause or heal trauma, cause or heal ignorance, aversion, etc. Any physical or emotional state is a result of this relationship.

So when placed in a relaxed state, the mind tells the body to relax, the body relaxes and the mind becomes more relaxed. This is a cycle of relaxation that is often used in hypnosis to calm the body which calms the mind.

You can see this relationship by visualizing a “bright yellow lemon”. Cut into the lemon and taste the juice and you might find that your mouth waters and/or puckers. In reality, however, there is no lemon, no juice, only the mental image and the body reaction. If you continued to eat the lemon in your mind, you might find that your mouth waters more, or that you give yourself heartburn. Whatever your body’s reaction to this would be, it has all occurred because of the mind and nothing solid or in ‘consensus reality’.

So, if you then can change your mind about the lemon and your reaction to it, you can then change your reaction to the same stimuli in consensus reality. You could perhaps change how you experience the taste of the lemon or your body’s reaction to the lemon.

These same principals then can be applied to life situations, physical dependencies or health concerns because your mind, the commander of the body, literally dictates how the body functions. There is ample research on physical healing, pain control, post-operative healing, and even cancer that point to the mind’s role in the healing of the body.

We’ve spent a lot of time covering the generals of past life regression in past articles including why a past life regression might be helpful to you, and the reasons to seek help other than past life regression. We’ve discussed how Cause and Effect, or the Law of Karma causes the happy and unhappy effects in your current life.

Now, I’d like to spend a little more time discussing the specifics of Past Life Regression. Specifically, what might you expect if you were to try this modality?

This is a series of articles that will include:

Demystifying Hypnosis

Often, people come to a past life regression or hypnosis session with preconceived notions about hypnosis. Specifically, many are concerned about “mind control” or “losing control over their free will”. This, more often than not, comes from sensationalist media claims and from hypnotists who would rather put on a show rather than utilize hypnosis as a way to help an individual change their attitudes, habits and beliefs about themselves. So, when discussing what hypnosis is, it is important to discuss what it is not.

What Hypnosis is Not

Hypnosis is not mind control, and under no circumstances will you do anything that is against your will. You will not blurt out secrets, unless you want to; you will not rob banks, sing like an opera star; nor will you change any unwanted habit; unless you choose to do so. One way to demystify hypnosis is to unveil the hypnosis stage show, how it works, and how, for entertainment purposes, this can look like the hypnotist is controlling the mind of those on stage.

The Hypnosis Stage Show

Now, before continuing, I am not completely opposed to the hypnosis stage show. What I am opposed to is the use of the hypnosis stage show to an uninformed audience; making the hypnotist look like the all powerful and mighty controller of the mind. While this makes for good theater, it has created much disinformation and distrust of a very useful healing tool.

This is how the stage show works. There are of course variations on this technique, however the general principle of choosing and eliminating subjects will apply. The important rule to remember is that you will not do anything that is against your will.

The Hypnotist observes the audience and searches out those who would be willing to come on stage and do entertaining things whether or not they are hypnotized. So, he/she watches the audience to see whose behavior would fit well on stage; generally, an extrovert who has very animated or even outrageous behavior. So, if the audience is say 100 people, this “filter” will limit the number of people the hypnotist must watch in the audience as subjects.

Then, the hypnotist will do a progressive relaxation and visualization (or some other hypnotic trance technique) and watching those ten or so, see which of those people are showing signs of hypnosis. Those who do come up and are part of the show. If there is an “uncooperative” subject, they hypnotist will let him/her go and make it look like part of the show.

This is not to say that these subjects are not hypnotized as they are, but it comes back to willingness of the subject to do what the suggestions are anyway.

Planetary Influences Can Affect the Karma That Ripens for You

We can nourish positive karmic seeds by keeping our intentions and attention focused on the positive around us. Our environment also provides input that can affect what seeds come to maturity.

For example, during the first few months of 2010 (Dec. 2009 – March, 2010) our Pitta energy was strongly stimulated by planetary influences, not the least of which was Mars in retrograde. This set the stage for a lot of aggressive movement both within our own bodies and in the planet at large. In Ayurvedic medicine, pitta energy is the psychophysiological source of your personal fire, kept in balance and flow by water. You can have too much of one or too little of the other. The goal, of course is to live in balance.

Pitta energy in balance brings warmth, confidence and protection. Out of balance, pitta energy can easily become destructive. If the fire aspect is too weak or low, one can become ill, depressed, and fatigued. If it’s too strong the warmth becomes hot and acidic. The confidence goes critical and obsessive and protection becomes aggressive, irritable  and argumentative.

The planet Mars represents aggression, passion, anger and energy. Therefore, Mars in retrograde is liable to fuel the fire and nourish your karmic seeds related to aggression. However, the energy could also be used to strengthen your courage and confidence.

Fire is the one element that can, under the right conditions, transform all the other elements. Fire burns wood, evaporate water, consumes air and ether, and liquefies both metal and earth. Therefore those who use fire properly can manifest high levels of spiritual manifestation. That’s why every shamanic tradition has some reference to a “ring of fire.” Therefore, if we consciously nourish balanced protection and strengthen our confidence, these next twelve weeks or so could be very productive and positive.

To help us on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels, meditation is essential for protection. On the physical level, it’s our immune system that protects us from infection and disease (the physical manifestations of aggression), so it makes sense to care for it properly.

It’s the immune system’s job to correctly identify and destroy foreign or harmful material that will compromise the health of your body. So I have come up with the latest Intuitive Learning Game entitled:

Five Steps to Improve Your Immune Function

Step One:

Take a few moments to meditate on this Pitta Energy Symbol – Chili from our home state of New Mexico.
Relax and tap on your thymus (located on your upper chest – in the center where the “bump” is). Doing so will help you to activate information about the health of your immune system.

Now go through the remaining steps using Intuitive Learning Circles to help you find out more about your pitta energy and what you can do to improve your immune function.

Step Two:

Have you been ignoring subtle messages telling you that you are off track in some way?

Step Three:

Use this affirmation with the next circle to change subconscious attitudes and beliefs that may be causing some trouble.
“I abandon any tendency I have to trick or sabotage my highest good.”
“I adopt creative methods that will assist me in benefiting myself and others.”

Step Four:

Find out what’s wrong.
Look at this circle and ask yourself,
“What is irritating me in my diet?”
Make a list. These are the foods, spices, herbs, supplements, etc. that you might want to cut back on.

Step Five:

Find out what will help.

What foods would help you get back in or stay in balance?
Make another list to remind you what foods are helpful.

Congratulations!

You now have a list of do’s and don’t's to help you stay in balance. Keep this game handy, as things may change quickly.

You plant the seeds that you want, give those seeds the conditions to ripen and your karmic garden becomes well cultivated and beautiful, the life that you would like to have, free from suffering. Like any good gardener, you have to, from time to time, pull the weeds and clear out any potentiality of growth that is unpreferred.

Most people are experiencing the ripening of seeds that were planted in past lives and in their past in this life. In my view, everyone on this board has had ripening virtuous seeds because:

1) You have reincarnated as a human being. You have a precious human life and considering where you might have ended up, this is a sign that your virtue has ripened.
2) You have internet access which means that you have at least some resources which allow you to be here and do this.
3) You are interested in this topic. Meaning that you have at least an interest in going beyond what is happening now. Your virtuous karma has given you the ability (through your birth and your spiritual exposure) to consider a path of liberation and enlightenment.

These are just three of many possible good things that are happening for you I’m sure.

I’m wondering what else is happening with you that shows you how your virtuous karma has ripened in this life.
